Some creativity goes off at such a tangent that the resulting designs fall under the quirky tag. I have come across many such instances and wanted to put together a compilation of the same. None of the bags here score with me for usage (there’s just one exception, we’ll come to that a bit later) but their designers must be lauded for thinking “out of the box” and breaking the norms of convention.
The Rebecca Minkoff Stelle Audio Clutch serves an entirely different purpose than what a clutch is generally expected to. It can help you make a style statement no doubt, but there is no storage space. What could have been storage space is occupied by speakers, as the name might hint at. Essentially these are portable bluetooth-enabled speakers.
Jaana Parkkila bags have mostly been unconventional in their designs and structures. Take for instance this Overlap Weave Clutch. While it is visually very appealing (in fact, it hardly looks like a bag at first glance) and would draw attention for carrying something off the beaten track, not much can be said about how it would fare in terms of storage and functionality.
Another designer known for quirky designs is Charlotte Olympia. Primarily known for her footwear and having tasted success early on, expanding into handbags was natural. But her “different” designs, such as the Novel Clutch below, are truly beyond my comprehension; I mean ‘Bedtime Stories’?! True, people would have their jaw dropping, when you fish out a mobile phone, say, from the depths of this ‘book’!
I knew animal prints were in and every other ‘It’ bag these days has some print inspired by the wild. But can you carry an entire animal itself, no matter how miniature, in the name of a bag? Not me. Check out the Alice & Olivia Zebra Clutch.
This one will have all wine lovers sit up and take notice. Vernissage has a bag with an exclusive chamber for wine and even a concealed faucet! No more worrying about carrying an additional item to store the liquid nor of it spilling. Presenting the Vernissage Wine Bag…there truly are no boundaries for imagination.
The Kate Spade Question Mark Bag is the only one here that I have taken a liking to. The designer has included other punctuation marks as well into her products, such as the exclamation mark. A very sophisticated and well-thought out design this one. The color combination adds to overall appeal. Just imagine the kind of attention you’d draw when you are out with it – either positive or negative, but certainly such a bag can’t be ignored!
Ever imagined a bag in the shape of a medical pill? Well, Christian Louboutin did and here is what the Capsule Bag looks like. Fit for a nurse may be?
Have you spotted any other quirky bag that should be part of this list?
