My Fall Favorites

Mulberry Primrose Featured

Fall is officially here and brands have given us a wide array of bags to choose from. While the Spring/Summer ’14 collections are being unveiled, I’d like to make a compilation of my favourite bags from the Fall releases. There have some new entrants this season and brands have tried to introduce an element of novelty even in signature designs.

I start with the Louis Vuitton Ecrin Lockit Chain bag that is by the most expensive, at USD 45,500. It is the crocodile skin that makes it so exorbitant. The usual leather handles have given way to metal chains. I adore this olive color and the small orange balls amidst the rings of the chain.

I like the Hermes Calfskin handbag for its unique silhouette. I could not find the price of this one, as it is available only on request. I hope they are available in more colors and I wish the handles were not rolled leather.

The Burberry Crush is by far my most favourite. I had already covered it exclusively here.

Next is an interesting bag from the Japanese brand Issey Miyake from the Prism series – the Prism Platinum Tote in Gun Metal. The mirror-like finish of the small triangles on the surface lends a high-shine look and the shade gun metal makes it appear metallic, which as we saw is one of the Fall trends. It retails for around USD 1,300.

From the stable of Mulberry, I have two favorites; one is a new entrant – the Primrose. I love it for its no-frills design, minimal hardware and the lock on the flap that opens on a sideways hinge. A small amendment can make a world of difference to the user experience.

The other is the Suffolk Tote in Ostrich skin in a beautiful emerald shade.

Plenty of animals and camo prints, but take a look at the insect print – the beetle to be precise – of the Tory Burch Robinson Printed Middy Satchel. Tops handles and a longer shoulder strap are but a staple in almost all bags these days. It is nominally priced at USD 375.

I must include the Phillip Lim 3.1 Ryder Satchel in this list. The texture of this bag is a combination of haircalf fur and cowhide leather. It has a single top handle and the shoulder strap. Metal feet protect the leather. The fine calf hair adds a touch of softness to the otherwise tough looking bag. It retails for USD 1,025.

Before I close, there is an interesting satchel I’d add to this list, though I am not too sure I like it at all. Coming from Alexander Wang, creativity is but expected. The Racketeer Satchel in Calf Hair has distinctly separate compartments that are integrated into a single unit with a single top handle. This satchel appears to be a bit weird for everyday use, but then, maybe it’s only a matter of getting used to.

Mother to three lovely boys and wife of a banking professional, I am extremely passionate about a host of topics, bags being one of them. For the record, the others are - makeup, travel, photography, in no particular order. Here I share my perspective on the Indian as well as the international bag-scene. As a youngster I would spend most of my money on bags and carry one according to my outfit. It is this love that I express through this blog. Needless to say, any suggestions for improvement, even healthy criticisms, are highly encouraged. Hope you enjoy your stay here and find something useful to help you on your next bag purchase!
