St. Tropez: Limited Edition Bags by Hidesign

Limited editions are always special, evoking that feeling of exclusivity. And when Hidesign announces such a collection, we bag lovers are all eyes. This time Hidesign teams up with the talented illustrator, Amrita Nambiar. Interestingly, Amrita was once a Senior Communications Designer (well, I have no clue what this role could have been about!) at Hidesign itself.

The theme of this collection is something that both the brand and the illustrator identify with – the majestic ocean that Pondicherry opens up to. There is another underlying theme that is quite in vogue these days – handpainted leather. The artist creates vivid expressions of an independent, strong, beautiful and mystical woman, comparing it with the grandeur of the sea and its waves, exhibiting the same characteristics. Spotless white leather forms the canvas for the sublime hand-paintings. Each style will have only 100 pieces manufactured.

Amrita has been fascinated by sketches and colors since a young age. She once said in an interview:

I love collaborative art and the idea of turning art into something both beautiful and functional!

She has done exactly that with this collection. If you’re wondering why it’s named St. Tropez, allow me to explain. St. Tropez is a quaint little town on the French Riviera. It is especially known for its beaches and is synonymous with the independence of women. Hence, it is an ultimate culmination of the aquatic, feminine and artistic inspirations. Quoting Dilip Kapur from the launch event:

With the second edition of the Handpainted collection, Hidesign’s belief in “Beauty lies in simplicity” is very strongly portrayed in this collection. With our extremely talented and hard-working team of artists here at Hidesign, we again successfully created something spectacular.

The collection has five styles – the hobo, shoulder bag, bi-fold wallet, clutch and zip-around, starting from INR 2,595 and going up to INR 10,495. I am yet to check them out in stores but the first glimpses are nothing short of stunning.

Mother to three lovely boys and wife of a banking professional, I am extremely passionate about a host of topics, bags being one of them. For the record, the others are - makeup, travel, photography, in no particular order. Here I share my perspective on the Indian as well as the international bag-scene. As a youngster I would spend most of my money on bags and carry one according to my outfit. It is this love that I express through this blog. Needless to say, any suggestions for improvement, even healthy criticisms, are highly encouraged. Hope you enjoy your stay here and find something useful to help you on your next bag purchase!
