Warning: This post might sound like a mushy love story! 🙂
Every once in a while in the life of a bag addict, comes a bag that sets the heart racing, as you tick everything from your checklist – color: check; shape: check; size: check; storage: check; budget: check! The Lavie Calico CSB Pleats endears you to it in no time and I can’t stop brimming with pride at my choice of an everyday sling bag that I regularly carry to work, along with my laptop backpack! And I carry it to malls and dinners with equal elan. Ok – that was the overview. Now, the review!
The Calico is part of Lavie’s Autumn-Winter ’13 collection. It is a rectangular flap bag standing at 23.2 CM (height) X 14.3 CM (width) X 5.2 CM (depth). It is neither too big to become a burden in high energy activities, nor too small that it can’t carry your essentials – a small money wallet, makeup for the day, some stationery, a note pad, phone, keys, a pack of tissues etc. The flap has subtle pleats on it with a small gold metallic disc bearing the brand’s name. The pleats help to break the monotony of a regular sling bag. The flap has two magnetic button closures to it. The bag is amply endowed in storage – a long back zipper pocket, a long zipper on the front, right below the flap, a central zipped compartment that opens to reveal two major sections divided by a long pouch. The front major section contains an open wall pouch and the other major section contains a zipped wall pocket. See?
The texture of the bag is so supple, almost with the richness of pure leather, though this is made of polyurethane. The inner lining is the regular Lavie beige fabric. It has a long sling strap that is adjustable, soft and of just the right width. It is a simple bag yet packs a punch. At my workplace, my colleagues have given compliments such as – “this is such a lovely bag; what brand is it?”, “the color is so yumm!”. Speaking of color, it is available in 3 other shades – lemon, beige, light pink. Lemon and the one I bought – peach – are the livelier colors. They are at the right intensity, without going into the neon zone.
The downside is that they are light colors and very vulnerable to marks of any sort. The other day I wore it with my new jeans and the blue color rubbed off slightly into the pleats at the back! 🙁 I really wish Lavie had darker colors in this range.
Nevertheless, it is a very sturdy and versatile bag. You must have this in your collection of bags – and at INR 1,770, it is absolutely affordable. I got it at a discount due to an online offer where I bought it from. I thank Lavie for giving us such a stellar product!
I must mention here that I bought this from Bagwati.com and I had a superb experience. I’ll put up a separate post about this site soon.
