Convertibles by Lavie

Lavie Convertibles

It’s a busy life with twins. But sometimes the boys are sweet enough to allow me a quick trip of the mall. Hence, at Shopper’s Stop yesterday I chanced upon the convertible backpack, Gazania, that is part of their Autumn/Winter ’14 collection. The SA informed me that this bag is available in 3 colors – Beige, Blue and Orange.

The bag is compact and sturdy. You can carry around all your basics though nothing too bulky. The material and texture is rugged, making it ideal for everyday rigor. The print is very feminine and lively; so are the colors. What sets it truly apart is the design of the straps that enable the bag to be used as a backpack as well as a shoulder bag. The hardware is golden and goes with all the three colors. The storage is quite ordinary – one central compartment with an inner wall zip, two inner pouches, two outer compartments, one with a zip and another with a buttoned flap closure.

I’d have liked a compartment at the back of it for storing important items such as phone/wallet. It would have meant a more secure storage than within the bag which goes out of view once slung over the shoulders. It would have also made sense to include a pouch for a tablet, as everyone seems to be carrying one these days. And given the gallons of water I drink each day, a netted bottle pouch on the side, albeit a concealed one, would have made it one complete bag! Lavie is one brand that is looked up to by millions of smart independent women and I wonder why they missed giving the above points a thought.

This summer they came up with the 4D bag that can be carried in one of 4 styles – tote, tablet sleeve, reverse tote and sling. So that way Lavie is good at concocting multitasking bags. There is one other convertible as well. The Patrinia is exactly like the Gazania except that it covers up one deficient point of the Gazania – the zipped compartment at the back. However, it comes in only in light pastel colors.

Both above bags are priced at INR 3,950 which I feel is a tad too steep. The Gazania measures 32 cm X 23 cm X 9 cm while the Patrinia is 3 cm wider. The former is textured while the latter has a glossy finish.

I’d pick the blue Gazania given a choice between the two. Take your pick, if you do not mind the price, that is.
