I’m pleased to bring to you this series on Hidesign Travel Bags. The Fleet Street Holdall and Tubman are ideal for short weekend getaways, when one usually travels light. Let’s delve deeper into their features.
In everyday work bags, it is handy to have multiple organizing options as the items carried on a daily basis are usually tiny, but the ask from a travel bag is somewhat different. What we carry during travel is bulkier, occupying more space. Hence, the main compartment must be spacious. It’s an added bonus if smaller sections are included, but the lack of it can be compensated by carrying small organizers – such as a toiletry bag, accessories bag, makeup bag and so on. Our two bags for today fall in the second category – a large main compartment and limited smaller sections.
The Tubman
A simple duffle at 53CM X 37CM X 21CM in tan and contrasting, strong, yellow webbing handles, the Tubman is an old model but a classic nonetheless. On one side is a long side pocket running almost the length of the bag, on the other side is a smaller open pouch. On the inside too, there are two long zippers running the length and three pouches lined next to each other underneath one of the zipped pockets. The Tubman does not have a shoulder strap. It is priced at INR 9,595. Being an old model, you’ve better chances of finding it in stores rather than online. In Bangalore, it is available at the Phoenix Market City store. It shared the silver screen space alongside Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh in Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl.
The Fleet Street
The Fleet Street is a large holdall with dimensions as 58CM X 34CM X 20CM. It has two, flat leather top handles and is more structured than the Tubman, lending it a sleeker look. Storage-wise, on the exterior it has a large pocket in the front and a long zipped pocket at the back. On one side of the main central compartment is a smaller zipped pocket and a long open pouch on the other. It scores over the Tubman in two features – it has a long shoulder strap and a lock for the main central zip. But it’s also more expensive at INR 10,095.
As a conclusion, I’d say the Tubman is ideal for informal weekend getaways, while the Fleet Street is apt for a tad more formal one.
