Hot Colors of Spring/Summer ‘14

Prada Twin Bag

It is absolutely fine if you do not let trends dictate your choices when you shop (I’m usually that sort) but it doesn’t hurt to be aware of them anyway. We saw the runway shows, the complete SS ’14 collections, Resort and Haute Couture editions. There have been some recurring color themes across formats. Read on to discover…

Soft, delicate pastels have been dominant. It is a welcome change from the blinding neons of last year. Pastels are something that can be incorporated with a multitude of outfits and occasions. The prettiest we have seen are the Burberry Petal Clutches.

There are contrasts at play – like the one above and the bright, rich colors. Pantone describes this phenomenon aptly as the “season of colorful equilibrium”. And brands such as Valentino, Prada, Hermes, Celine have brought some of their bag styles in a plethora of bright colors. These are summery by their very nature and well herald the sunny days ahead.

Paler than pastels are the neutrals. Those that are greyish, brownish, cream-ish – you get the hang, right? Not very uplifting for the lively days ahead, if you ask me. In fact, light neutrals are among my least preferences; not only do I find them gloomy, they aren’t exactly the easiest to maintain in their clean, spotless state.

Then there are the whites and blacks, classic season-less colors of all time. They come together in monochromatic bags we saw from Victoria Beckham and Karl Lagerfeld, to name a few.

And let’s not forget the vibrant color family of Radiant Orchid. It has shades to cater to both spring and autumn, if you are indeed particular about dressing for the season. They are in a league of their own, apart from the more common reds, blues and greens.

Colors can infuse life in an otherwise drab piece. The contrary is also true – it can be a deal breaker. A bag makes one of its first impressions through color. And as they say, there is never a second chance to make a first impression. How important is color for you when you select bags?

  • Well said Vidya your handbag is one of the accessories which makes an impression about your personality and your attitude towards colors. For me color have an important role while selecting the hand bag, previously my eyes always stuck to black coz this is the color which goes with any dress but one day I get a chance to choose a hand bag except black, I opted yellow Hidesign bag which have featured in one of your articles. And Vidya, it looks amazing and I have received lots of complements coz of that yellow handbag. Every color has its importance in handbags too. Be colorful towards life and keep colorful handbags.
