Spearheading Sustainability – I: Discover ‘Clean Planet’

Clean Planet

It’s heartening to see the quantum of efforts going into initiatives that are environmentally responsible. They need to be lauded and the best way to do so is to spread awareness about their products. BagsLounge takes a step forward in this direction by starting this series that would focus on such groups.

For this maiden post, we bring to you ‘Clean Planet’, that’s based out of Mumbai. They speak the eco-friendly language through fashion and also through their day-to-day activities. Fashion is something many of us are passionate about or at least have an interest in and something we can easily relate to. So what better way to spread the green message? As of now, Clean Planet has a portfolio of totes and utility bags, such as for groceries, laptop/tablet sleeves etc. All bags are made of cotton, wool or suit fabric and each type has color, sometimes, print options.

Their dedication to this cause shines forth right from their production process. In their own words:

Our first prototypes are made with old newspaper so that there’s more accuracy when creating actual product samples.

In fact, they have activities enlisted on their website about the little things they do each day to reduce their carbon footprint – such as using old paper for making notes, minimizing prints, reusing the packaging material and so on. Their approach is holistic as their sister site GreenGift gives ideas about green gifting options that are simple DIYs. Readers can also submit their ideas, thereby nurturing a whole community with the golden sustainability mantra – reuse, recycle, reduce. The prices are reasonable too, mostly well below INR 1,000. So get ready to flaunt your style, the eco-friendly way!

About the author

Vidya Gupta

Mother to three lovely boys and wife of a banking professional, I am extremely passionate about a host of topics, bags being one of them. For the record, the others are - makeup, travel, photography, in no particular order. Here I share my perspective on the Indian as well as the international bag-scene. As a youngster I would spend most of my money on bags and carry one according to my outfit. It is this love that I express through this blog. Needless to say, any suggestions for improvement, even healthy criticisms, are highly encouraged. Hope you enjoy your stay here and find something useful to help you on your next bag purchase!
