The last I knew about Chumbak was that they were popular for fun fridge magnets. Somehow, within the blink of an eye, they have diversified into every category one could think of for the free-spirited woman and the modern home. Stationery – check. Jewelry – check. Tech accessories – check. Apparel – check. Furniture, lighting, home decor, bags – oh yes BAGS! – check, check check! Their whole range takes quirk and fun to a new level altogether.
Thanks to the founder couple Vivek Prabhakar and Shubhra Chadda, for bringing oodles of delight into our wardrobes and living spaces. Their eureka moment was noticing that the only souvenirs available in and representative of India were the Taj Mahal replicas. Selling off their apartment provided them with the capital to launch their line of fridge magnets which also drew legions of loyal customers. They were adept at tappingĀ this client base to its maximum potential by introducing ever more product categories, funded by venture capitalists, and from there, they scripted an explosive growth story. I am tempted to compare their growth with that of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh – his metamorphosis from Bittoo Sharma of Band Baaja Baaraat to Bajirao Ballal in Bajirao Mastani was remarkable!
They are competitively priced in line with the other forerunners of Indian fashion. They have an omni-presence – be it their own portal, or on others like Flipkart, Amazon, their own stores or as kiosks in popular malls. They expertly infuse their stuff with quirk without going overboard to garish. Take a look at the bags below and I’m sure you’d agree that everything from the pleasing colors, to shapes and design elements can drive away any amount of gloom. My personal favorites are the backpacks – especially the owl ones. I would post more detailed reviews of the bags themselves once I get hold of them. For now, you cannot ignore the sheer vibrancy of these bags!
